Strategic desk research

I have helped a number of organisations carry out strategic desk research and literature reviews to inform their work. I take a pragmatic approach but I don’t cut corners. I understand the importance of going back to the original source to verify what I’m writing, and really enjoy applying what I already know from other sectors/work to make new links.

I write with a purpose – sifting through what matters and what doesn’t based on the project objectives. Where there are tensions I call them out, rather than glossing over them. I understand busy readers don’t have much time and work hard to write in an accessible way, providing an overview and then letting readers dig deeper into what interests them.

A lot of this work is not published. My reports have been used to:

  • inform a business development strategy,
  • help to identify gaps in what we know about public perceptions of the route to net zero,
  • support a decision on how to work with people with lived experience,
  • inform formative evaluation findings,
  • advocate for policy change.

You can find an example of one of my reports about health inequalities and AI here.
